Unless that happens, the Lakers are going to sit tight and hope it turns around. With so much flux this season, I really don't see it happening, and with Gasol injured, it makes it even harder because the Lakers will need to get a big man in return. A deal with Utah for their stud frontcourt would make sense for the Lakers, but it wouldn't work for Utah because they have young big men studs that need playing time, hence the reason they are willing to part with Jefferson and Millsap. A deal for KG would be possible, and would work for both sides, but KG has that no trade clause and he seems to want to retire as a Celtic. So honestly, the trade scenarios aren't all that bright. If Pau was healthy, it would be a totally different situation.

So, either Dwight will choose to re-sign, or he will walk. Either way, the Lakers will be ok. If he re-signs, great, if he walks, then it's on to the next free agent since we will have a boatload of cap space by not having to pay Dwight a max contract.

This season seems to be lost, but come next season, there should be a much greater sense of stability. It's tough to endure, but it's the reality. I'd like to see them rip off a huge run of games, but I doubt it. Their biggest run this season is five, and that was against teams like the Bobcats and Wizards. The Lakers never win easily, it's always a damn struggle. And when every game is close, anything can happen, thus a greater chance for losing.

As for your stance on the Clippers, thank you. There have been far too many switches in allegiance since the arrival of CP3. I can't stand, "LA" fans, you either support the Lakers or Clippers, not both. Nobody gave a damn about the Clippers when Darius Miles, Quentin Richardson, and Lamar Odom were in town. Nobody gave a damn when it was Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston. Yes, they are exciting, no I will not root for them over the Lakers, ever.

Hang in there, it's going to be a long offseason = [Tim Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09117365779400657551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-63667368014511800032013-02-15T09:19:42.784-08:002013-02-15T09:19:42.784-08:00Bummer of a game for sure. If we don't trade him and he doesn't sign long-term, Laker Nation will erupt. It bothers me that it seems as if the front office fails to realize that Dwight is a bit of a locker-room poison. Former Lakers agree. And I bet you some current Lakers would agree if they were being totally honest. Diggin' the article you wrote btw. I'm just really bitter right now because I have a strong dislike for the Clippers and have loved the Lakers since birth, but I can't help but bring up the fact that Dwightmare may be the reason for our joke of a season thus far. The one area where '92 dominates this team is consistency. They were constantly hungry. Kobe is the only player on this team with a trace of the Jordan/Magic/Bird/Pippen competitiveness.

You're right, this '12 group is far more athletic. When you can put LeBron, 'Melo, Durant, Westbrook and Paul on the floor - not many combinations from any time period can run with them.

Athleticism only goes so far. This team lacks the motivation and mentality that Jordan had. I thought Lithuania would be a wake-up call, but we're seeing another slow start against Argentina. The US Women's Soccer Team just played with more passion than these guys - put them back on!Joe Keeganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10903320266146931687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-73094863668423459112012-08-04T00:09:26.769-07:002012-08-04T00:09:26.769-07:00You know what's funny though — before the Nige...You know what's funny though — before the Nigeria performance, people were unwilling to even consider the possibility of Team USA 2012 defeating the '92 Dream Team. Now the narrative has shifted in terms of mass media. One performance didn't make this team. This team has always had this sort of potential. Versatile guys who can play three to four positions on the floor is always dangerous.

As a keen observer of the game, I never understood the harsh backlash aimed at Kobe for his statements. I have to give Magic some props for actually acknowledging this squad as pretty dominant.

Still waiting for MJ to recant his "I absolutely laughed" statement. Oh really MJ... really, you laughed, ok. I'm sure he laughed when he realized that Durant and James would be unguardable with the group of guys on his '92 squad. Pippen could neutralize one, but not both — leaving Malone or Barkley to have to guard one or the other (aka - huge mismatch). MJ really laughed when he realized that he wouldn't be the most athletic player on the floor as well — a significant advantage he carried early in his career that masked his suspect jumper. MJ is still the GOAT, but come on, evolution speaks for itself — bigger, faster, stronger.

As long as USA '12 wins the gold and maintains about a 35+ ppg margin, they will absolutely open up debate for "Greatest Team Ever." The smugness of those hall of famers really rubbed me the wrong way, and I'm sure '12 feels the same way. For history's sake, I hope '12 takes care of business and takes out the current and historical competition along the way.

You have to hand it to Kobe — he holds a supreme confidence in himself, and he didn't back down from Jordan, stating, "He knows I'm a bad motherfucker." Who else would have replied with that response? LeBron and Durant are far too humble to challenge MJ. Props to Kobe, and props to USA '12 for the greatest basketball performance ever.

Let's just hope that '12 doesn't cough up a game and stain an absolute prime opportunity to lay claim to "Greatest Team Ever."Tim Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09117365779400657551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-75549070035714114282012-08-03T10:29:38.446-07:002012-08-03T10:29:38.446-07:00They needed this game. The slow start against Tuni...They needed this game. The slow start against Tunisia was unacceptable - but they've carried their momentum from the second half of that game. Obviously they won't shoot this well again, but they should be winning all future games with relative ease.

As far as the 1992 Dream Team goes, you cannot compare the two. They played in different generations, against different opponents. As a Celtics fan, I rarely agree with Kobe Bryant. However, how can you challenge his statement? He says this team could beat them - not that they are better than them, not that they would beat them every time, just that they COULD beat them. I'd have to agree with Kobe on this one.

As you said, this game will be the defining moment for this team. I just hope that the players don't get ahead of themselves. Anything less than gold from this group of players would be a huge disappointment. They need to bring their A-game every night - especially against Spain.Joe Keeganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10903320266146931687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-81082420467990938882012-07-21T21:33:43.444-07:002012-07-21T21:33:43.444-07:00NBA new season will be good, because many player go...NBA new season will be good, because many player go to new team, jeremy lin rockets jersey, ray allen heat jersey and steve nash lakers jersey will play better in next season.Hamltonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14250812586314383199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-6963587361334265272012-07-13T14:06:16.723-07:002012-07-13T14:06:16.723-07:00Haha, open your mind.Haha, open your mind.Tim Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09117365779400657551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-12570631602170132452012-07-13T03:29:32.881-07:002012-07-13T03:29:32.881-07:00BLASPHEMY!!!BLASPHEMY!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-13997553064984363582012-07-07T17:02:51.736-07:002012-07-07T17:02:51.736-07:00Thanks for the support. Thanks for the support.Tim Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09117365779400657551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-84173808850508787062012-07-02T23:32:15.843-07:002012-07-02T23:32:15.843-07:00Hi,

Factor in the fact that Marhsmello quit on Mike D'Antoni, and you have to respect Chandler's defensive effort."

And more importantly, my post featured a comparison between Tyson Chandler and Dwight Howard in regards to being selected to the All-Defensive First Team. I covered how each impacted the 2012 season.

Within that coverage, I stated, "New York finished 11th with 94.7." This line referred to New York placing as the 11th best defensive team in the league. So Chandler obviously had an enormous impact if he led the defense to the top half of the league despite playing with permeable teammates.

So I covered Chandler's impact on the defensive end, and why it may or may not have led to his inclusion on the All-Defensive First Team.

So what "picture" are you trying to paint?

Honestly, I don't think you even have a point. While the "big hits" have gone done, this only seems to make each "accidental" big hit that much more spectacular. It impacts every serious sports analysis, discussion, show, and even big media. I want...Great point and thank you for the comment.

I want to piggyback on some of your points.

The players have gotten bigger, faster, and stronger, but the game has remained the same (albeit some Goodell rule changes on kickoffs and shots to the head).

Many critics point to helmets as providing a false sense of security, but it's more than that. To be an elite athlete, false immortality is required to push past the limits of the body. The greats all have a story of overcoming a strenuous circumstance. Many players shut off their fear gauge. Players never ever (at least during the game) consider the fact that all it takes is one play to impact them for the rest of their lives. Once fear enters the mind, it is almost impossible to shake. Think about how many quarterbacks stand in the pocket, hold the ball late to buy time, and take a huge hit. They are expected to do that every play. If they ever let fear seep in, they could never do their job, hence, quarterbacks with "happy feet."

Even crazier, think about how many guys have returned to play in games after sustaining a concussion. It's ridiculous. That false bravado makes them elite, but it also makes them foolish. Brett Favre immediately comes to mind. He had one such incident in '04. He suffered a concussion against the Giants, ended up reentering the game without any medical evaluation, and then threw a 28yd touchdown to Javon Walker. In his post game interview, Favre stated that he could not remember throwing the touchdown.

What the public truly needs to realize, is that when it comes to contact sports, immortality is always a play away from being shattered. I love watching, playing, consuming football, but I also understand that it is probably the most dangerous sport I have ever participated in. Honestly, when playing football, even at the highest athletic peak, we are all mortal. I don't think there is a "limited time" of immortality. I think there is a borrowed time of immortality. Eventually that ticket gets punched.Tim Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09117365779400657551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281711169483103069.post-57600399634424617772012-05-03T22:09:57.574-07:002012-05-03T22:09:57.574-07:00Wow, very powerful!
